It is incredibly audacious.

Keep in mind, for runners at this elite level, shaving even a fraction of a second every mile is a physical super feat.

A review of current data shows it took nearly two decades to decrease the world record by 3 minutes. But to do it in one leap has become the obsession of some runners and scientists.

Academic research team Sub2 seeks to break the two hour mark in the next 5 years and big sports brands such as Adidas and Nike are dedicating resources to the effort as well.

In order to investigate more, I traveled to the Nike world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. It is a place hyper focused on human optimization. Most of the buildings on campus are named after elite athletes, such as Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson,

Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, and of course Steve Prefontaine, the athlete who helped popularize running in the 1970’s.

Down pillows are made from the soft plumage underneath the feathers of ducks and geese. Sold in varying lofts and sizes, they can last many years when cared for properly. One of the ways to ensure your down pillows last a long time is to keep them clean. Always use a zippered pillow protector over the pillow (under the pillow case), and occasionally wash the pillows in a nonagitating washing machine.

Proper Care Wash the pillow protector regularly to clean off sweat, body oils, dust and any spills. Keep your pillows dry. Wash the pillow a couple of times a year or when it becomes soiled. You can use a professional laundry service or do it yourself if you have the time.

How to Wash Read the use and cleaning label on your pillow and follow the directions. Check the pillow for loose seams or any tears that could allow the down to escape during the wash. Don’t use an agitating washer because the pillow could get wrapped around the agitator and tear. Instead, use a front loading, nonagitating washer, often found at coin operated laundries. The size of the machine should not be excessive,
timberland manchester Can a Down Pillow Be Washed in a Washing Machine Dried in a Dryer
however. Make sure the washer basin is clean and free of any sharp items that could tear the pillow casing. Remove the zippered case to be washed separately. Use a mild detergent and add plenty of warm water so the pillow will be fully covered. Set the washer for an extra rinse cycle.

How to Dry Use a large dryer and set the heat to medium or low. If you use a dryer at a commercial laundry, check the heat after a few minutes to ensure it isn’t too high. Fluff up the pillow a few times during the drying cycle, and spread out the feathers with your hands. Good Housekeeping recommends drying down pillows with several clean tennis shoes as a way to restore the pillows faster. Drying down feathers will take at least an hour per pillow.

That Clean Down Feeling Always follow the use and cleaning recommendations on the label. The Company Store recommends against self laundering and suggests dry cleaning down pillows instead. The manufacturer also recommends airing out your down pillows outdoors, but out of direct sunlight, a few times a year.

Just reading this forum and I had such a surprise over the weekend with this one so thought I’d share it with everyone.

At the weekend I went camping and took my laptop with me, we use the laptop for a TV with a TV card when we go camping and thought that’s what we’d do.

I was so shocked when I got to the site and realised the laptop just wouldn’t switch on, all that I was getting was the DVD drive clicking, and the hard drive clicking and that was it.

Trying to think of anything it may been I thought at first the hard drive had dislodged itself, or the DVD drive because early that day we’d been through an awful street in Liverpool full of potholes (it really was the worst street ever nearly took the bottom out of my car on potholes can’t believe the council would let a major route like this get so bad!).

Unfortunately when camping I had no screwdriver to check the hard drive or anything so left it till I got home.

When I got home I took the hard drive out, memory, DVD drive, Wi Fi card and re connected them all nothing.

At this point I thought oh no has something seriously failed, then I thought a few days ago my laptop clock kept acting up, keeping the wrong time, and resetting to a few days beforehand.

I wondered whether it might just be the CMOS battery was flat although I doubted it because when I’ve come across this in the past normally the computer just boots up and warns you that it’s reset the CMOS to default settings.

Luckily I had a spare CR2032 battery in my spare car key so I changed it just to check, and guess what the laptop worked and it came up with a warning that the CMOS had been reset.

That is so strange because I would never have thought that a dead CMOS battery could cause modern computers to stop working, as I’ve come across plenty of old computers from the past that work fine with a dead CMOS battery, mind you I have found that the BIOS in this Compaq laptop is a lot more stranger than a standard PC BIOS because even removing things like hard drives, and DVD drives in a laptop can force it to just not boot at all with no error messages, not really very helpful when your trying to diagnose a fault!

A bios battery can definately stop a computer from booting. I fix computers as a hobby and I have had at least 8 machines in the past 5 years that have been completely dead. Of the 8, half were found to be caused by the battery having gone short circuit, which permenantly holds the CMOS in the reset state. The other half were due to the battery terminal voltage droping to a level that causes momentary loss of cmos data, sufficient to require a manual cmos reset to default settings.

In addition to my previous post, the problem you are describing is usually the result of a device failing. It could be the memmory however I would unplug EVERYTHING except the keyboard, mouse and monitor and if the computer has PS/2 inputs for the mouse and keyboard use them if you can instead of USB devices, (it could be usb driver). Then I would remove one stick of memory at a time and try it in each slot by itself, if it still locks up it is probably your hard drive.

Yes, this most certainly can cause the computer not to boot. I see this every day on my job (Systems Analyst). In fact, it happens so frequently that we keep a lot of CMOS batteries on hand. Also, if the battery is low, it can cause numerous problems with the software hardware to not function properly.

You need to measure the voltage using a volt meter to ensure that it does not fall below a specific value. For example, our batteries (typically 3.3 volts new) will begin to produce errors or issues once they go below between 2.5 3.0 volts. The lower the voltage the wider range of errors will occur until the system will not boot up at all.

We have also found that the cheap batteries (off brand) typically do not last as long. Like anything else, you get what you pay for. Hope this helps.

Joao Lourenco has a huge challenge ahead, as he becomes Angola’s first new president in 38 years.

The ruling People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) has won a huge majority in parliament following the 23 August election, according to official results, meaning he will succeed Jose Eduardo Dos Santos.

Three years later, when President Dos Santos hinted that he might be ready to resign the presidency, Mr Lourenco made known his interest in the top job.

But the MPLA victory, early in 2002, in a 27 year civil war against the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (Unita), served to relaunch Mr Dos Santos’ presidency, and any talk of retirement was soon forgotten.

The following year at the 2003 MPLA party congress, Mr Lourenco was demoted.

In 2012, as Mr Dos Santos approached 70, the succession issue became more pressing.

When the president elevated his cousin, Manuel Vicente, to become vice president, some foreign observers saw this as the anointing of Mr Vicente as a successor.

However, Mr Lourenco, would have known better that the MPLA would never endorse a political outsider like Mr Vicente as president, and that a man with no military pedigree was a risky choice in a country where the security forces lurk in the shadows of politics.

Mr Lourenco, on the other hand, could be confident that he himself had both the party and the military credentials, and that this was enough to earn forgiveness for his lack of caution a decade earlier.

Sure enough, his appointment as defence minister in 2014 signalled his rehabilitation.

And his election in 2016 as MPLA party vice president left no doubt that he would succeed the by now ailing Mr Dos Santos.

But Mr Dos Santos’s long held suspicion of potential rivals has made it nearly impossible for Mr Lourenco, or anyone else, to show initiative or cultivate a following.

This makes it difficult to know what to expect from the next president of one of Africa’s biggest oil producers.

Who is Joao Lourenco?

Active in MPLA struggle against Portuguese colonial rule as a teenager.

Part of first group of guerrillas to enter Angolan territory from Congo Brazzaville

Received military training and studied history from 1978 to 1982 in the former Soviet Union

General in the Angolan Armed Forces in post independence civil war

Defence minister since 2014

Said to be one of the few Angolan generals and politicians free of allegations of involvement in major corruption scandals

Married to Ana Dias de Lourenco, a former World Bank official, who has held several positions in government as minister. They have six children

Small white dog appears in his Facebook photos

Is Angola’s Dos Santos really giving up power?

While Mr Lourenco is only 12 years younger than President Dos Santos, he has been forced in the past few months to reinvent himself as a bringer of generational change.

The man born in 1954, schooled in the military and in the mysteries of the political culture of the old MPLA, has suddenly discovered social media.

He rarely looks entirely comfortable in his Facebook photos, even when relaxing at home with his wife, the former government minister and World Bank official Ana Dias Lourenco.

These old legs have carried me along as an observer on many a march, walk, protest, rally, parade, call them what you will. Anti Vietnam war, pro pot, anti racism, give peace a chance, cure cancer even, on one occasion, a rampaging window smashing mob. Some are good, some bad, some silent, some rowdy. Thursday’s pride parade was different than any of them, though the basic elements were the same people walking and talking for a cause. Create a crowd with an axe to grind and, often as not, something ugly lies just under the surface. Not this one. The university is a friendly environment for such things. As TRU president Alan Shaver told them, universities are about “diversity” and incubating “new knowledge and understanding.” He didn’t mention the LGBTQIA word, but his message was clear and supportive. And there were plenty of others there to declare that “we are here and we are beautiful,” and to demand that “our voice must be invited to the table.” There were no goofy,
timberland eurosprint boots Campus a friendly venue for 'parade'
intentionally provocative costumes or behaviour no studded leather or nudity that characterize many big city pride parades intended to antagonize the phobes. This was a T shirt, blue jeans and ball cap crowd. They held rainbow banners and carried signs with slogans like “Hearts not parts,” “Love is never wrong,” and “Come out of the closet, make room for more shoes.” It’s impossible to know how many were straight and how many something else, but it was a fine thing to see and know that this wasn’t just some protest group with vested interests it was a community of people, albeit mostly the TRU community, expressing its unity and acceptance with joy and gusto. Supt. Yves Lacasse and a half dozen cops and some firefighters were there, too, not to keep watch but rather to offer a friendly presence. Kamloops South NDPer Tom Friedman walked along; he wasn’t sure if he was there as a TRU prof or as a candidate but he did know he was there to support the event. I saw his Kamloops North running mate Kathy Kendall, too, and there was Coun. Donovan Cavers leaping onto a dumpster to get a better picture as the 300 participants walked past. He and Nelly Dever carried the colours, as it were, for the rest of City council, most of whom opted to attend a regional district board meeting instead. I suppose the wheels of government must roll uninterrupted, but it would have been nice to have someone there in a mayoral capacity from at least one of the towns in the region, which is why alternates are appointed for RD duties. It would have been nice, as well, if the organizers had provided 15 seconds of microphone time for a council rep to bring best wishes from City Hall, since council proclaimed April 5 as Kamloops Pride Day. Cavers made that offer to the organizers but wasn’t taken up on it. No matter. A parade hasn’t been that much fun since Santa Claus last rode down Victoria Street on the back of a tractor trailer. I wonder if it would have been different had they marched on main street instead of University Avenue. I wonder if the bigots would have come out of the shadows and spoiled it. I hope not maybe they couldn’t have found parking.

YAOUNDE, Nov 23 (Reuters) Security forces in Cameroon arrested about 100 people during days of protests over alleged discrimination against minority English speaking people, Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary and a senior security source said on Wednesday.

Bakary said vandals who mingled with the demonstrators smashed shops in the northwestern town of Bamenda during the protests during which one person was killed.

A second security source said the demonstrators also wanted independence for Cameroon’s two English speaking regions and the departure of President Paul Biya, who has been in power since 1982 and is one of Africa’s longest serving rulers.

French is spoken in eight of Cameroon’s 10 regions and English in the northwestern and southwestern regions.

Bakary said reinforcements in Bamenda were helping security forces return the situation to normal. He said the protests posed no threat to Biya.

“Unions were complaining of being a bit marginalised and said they were discriminated against because of the (English) language,

” Bakary told Reuters.

“There are some politicians who are using the situation as a tool for leverage to pursue their own interests,” he said, noting that the government was open to dialogue and ministers had met for talks to work out how to resolve the problem.

Reuters television footage of Bamenda on Tuesday showed security forces scouring the streets for protesters, and several barricades and one avenue blocked by flames in the market area.

A woman walking with two young children stopped in her tracks at the sound of a gunshot. It also showed residents fleeing as riot police and soldiers marched through almost deserted streets.

Camel Toe is like seeing the thing you’ve been begging for sitting under the Christmas tree wrapped in paper in the exact shape of what it is You already know what’s in there, the wrapping is merely a formality, but you don’t mind because what’s underneath is just what you wanted. “Let me guess, it’s a bike. Cool! I bet it’s a football. Neato! And what’s she have? Oh yeah, it’s a vagina. Awesome!”

Wether it’s in Bikinis, stretch pants, or tight jeans, some cases of Camel Toe occur spontaneously while others are blatantly intentional. The difference is often very obvious with the latter of the two being the female equivalent of a carefully positioned cock bulge, though augmentation to the crotch area is not necessary to produce the effect. Sporting “The Toe” is one of the most powerful weapons in a woman’s sex appeal arsenal next to toting around some rockin’ tits.

There is no question for guys that Camel Toe is friggin’ awesome! There are however times when unintentional Camel Toe can lead to embarrassment for the lady who rocks the toe without being in the know. For women who do not embrace the trace, there are products available to conceal the guilded and storied crease beneath the fleece.

Saipov then alleegdly burst from the truck, brandishing imitation firearms, including a paint ball gun, and reportedly shouting Allahu Akbar.

In August five terrorists wearing suicide belts rammed civilians with a car in the Spanish seaside town of Catalonia before being shot dead by police in a second attack to hit the country.

Attacks by ETA, however, were numerous in the years following the 2004 bombings, with several lives lost between 2005 and 2011.

These include a van bombing at Madrid international airport in December 2006, which killed two Ecuadorean immigrants and injured 26, and a car bombing near a police barracks in Majorca in July 2009, which left two officers dead.

In April last year, ETA declared a “unilateral disarmament” and claimed to have handed in their weapons.

The massacre started with an attack at the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 people.

It ended with a huge police operation and two sieges. During the bloodshed, another militant killed a policewoman and took hostages at a supermarket, killing four before police shot him dead.

By Martin Petty and Prak Chan Thul

PHNOM PENH, Nov 23 (Reuters) Saffron robed Buddhist monks chanted as onlookers gazed silently across a bridge piled with the shoes and torn clothing left behind by victims of a stampede in Cambodias capital.

The body count stood at 375 by sunset on Tuesday and was expected to rise. Many people were missing and Cambodians had many questions about one of the darkest days of their countrys recent and troubled history. [ID:nL3E6MN00G]

The cause of the stampede on the Diamond Gate bridge late on Monday, the last day of an annual three day Water Festival, remained a mystery.

Everyone is shocked that this can happen to us, said Chhun Sreypong, 45, clutching her one year old baby and looking out across Phnom Penhs Tonle Sap river, from where scores of limp bodies were dragged.

Those who died were mostly youngsters. Many mothers have lost their children. No one knows why this happened.

Survivors gave chilling accounts of being buried under piles of bodies, alive and dead, for as long as three hours, crying for help and clambering for air, open mouthed as police doused the trapped crowd with water cannons.

People were shouting for help and began to push, said Touch Theara, 38, who was among the thousands who flocked to Diamond Island to eat in restaurants, listen to live music and buy cheap clothes.

Her sister and her friend died on the bridge, which some described as a gate to hell.

About 755 people were injured.

While many victims drowned, most perished while trapped under the weight of hundreds of fleeing revellers.

Hours after the tragedy,
timberland boots for women Cambodian monks bless dead after night of horror
the scene was untouched. Shoes, flip flops and ripped clothing piled up a foot high across some parts of the 80 metre bridge linking Phnom Penh to a gawdy man made entertainment island packed with restaurants, fairground rides and exhibition centres.

Hundreds of onlookers endured the stench of rotting garbage and tip toed across the trampled grass to get a glimpse at the place where so many died.

Many people sat in silence on the steep banks of the Tonle Sap, a tributary of the Mekong River, listening to the chanting of hundreds of Buddhist monks who laid flowers and lit incense to bless the dead.

Flags were flown at half mast across the city of about 2 million people, which swelled during the festival as hundreds of thousands flocked in from surrounding provinces for the festival marking the end of the rainy season.

Television repeatedly showed footage of shirtless, shoeless bodies laid out on the ground and on hospital floors, many open eyed and covered in bruises.

Relatives of the dead wept at the Khmer Soviet hospital, where more than 100 unclaimed and unidentified bodies, most of them teenagers, lay side by side, covered in white sheets.

I didnt feel safe on the bridge, there were just too many people, so I crossed just in time, said Bothra Cheahcha, whose friends were among the dead.

Its tragic and I was so lucky, he said. I feel like Im reborn, like I have been given a second chance at life. (For a timeline of some of the worst stampedes in the last 20 years click [ID:nLDE6AL27J]) (Editing by Robert Birsel)

timberland infant boots Cambodia to increase garment industry minimum wage 9

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia Cambodia announced Thursday it will raise the minimum wage for clothing workers by 9.4 per cent to $140 a month, hoping to ease tensions in the country main export industry.

A Labor Ministry statement said the government is increasing the wages on instructions from Prime Minister Hun Sen after eight days of tense negotiations in a committee representing employers, workers and the government.

Three years ago, a union campaign to double the then minimum wage of $80 in the textile, garment and footwear industries resulted in clashes with police and a crackdown on public protests. A $100 level was set for 2014 and $128 this year but tensions over wages remained high.

In early 2014, at least four people were killed and more than 20 were injured when police outside Cambodia capital opened fire to break up a protest by striking garment workers.

The clothing and footwear industry is Cambodia biggest export earner, employing about 700,000 people in more than 700 garment and shoe factories. In 2014, the Southeast Asian country shipped more than $6 billion worth of products to the United States and Europe.

But as in other developing countries in the region such as Bangladesh and Vietnam that rely heavily on their garment industries, wages in Cambodia remain low by international standards.

am not satisfied with this new wage, said Ath Thorn, president of the Coalition of Cambodian Apparel Workers Democratic Union,
black and gold timberland boots Cambodia to increase garment industry minimum wage 9
who took part in the negotiations. think the net salary of each garment worker should be at least $150 per month, not $140 as cited by the Labor Ministry. union had also rejected the 2015 minimum wage of $128 per month, but the labour movement in Cambodia remains weak. The union rejection means little to the government and factory owners, who will simply go ahead and pay the new wage of $140.

Because of that, workers often resort to street protests, which are unnerving for the government because the major unions are generally allied with the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, whose political strength has been growing in recent years.

The Labor Ministry said that when other benefits are calculated, the workers will make an average of $157 to $168 monthly next year.

In a statement, the International Labor Organization acknowledged the efforts by all parties to reach a consensus.

wages gradually increase, it is important for the industry to improve overall productivity, and for garment buyers to examine their purchasing practices, it said.

Labour Minister Ith Samheng acknowledged that the new wage is not as much as workers had demanded, but noted that the majority of negotiators agreed to it.

PHNOM PENH, Nov 23 (Reuters) A stampede on a bridge in Cambodias capital killed at least 375 people when thousands panicked, pinning and trampling revellers on the last day of a festival marking the end of the rainy season.

The stampede began late on Monday on a small bridge lined with lights connecting Phnom Penh to an island where a crowd of mostly young people had gathered to celebrate the water festival and watch a concert.

Survivors said panic set in when shouts went up that several people had been electrocuted. Police said some people also shouted that the bridge was about to collapse as thousands of people were heading back to the city centre.

The victims suffocated or were trampled and some survivors said they were wedged into the crowd of living and dead for hours. Police sprayed water so survivors could drink, some said.

People were shouting that someone had been electrocuted, to run back, Touch Loch, 18, told Reuters. I fell and people stepped on me until I passed out.

Government spokesman Phay Siphan said some bodies had not been recovered, suggesting the death toll could climb beyond 375.

Khon Sros, 19, said from her hospital bed some people had leapt off the bridge to escape but she had been pinned in the crowd from her waist down until police pulled her out.

One man died near me. He was weak and didnt have enough air.

Touch Theara, 38, said she had been stuck in the crowd for three hours: I thought I was dead .. Police sprayed water at us. We were just opening our mouths to drink.

Prime Minister Hun Sen apologised for the disaster in which at least 755 people were hurt. He ordered an investigation as television footage showed relatives weeping over the bodies of the dead piled one on top of the other.

This is the biggest tragedy in more than 31 years after the Pol Pot regime, he said, referring to the Khmer Rouge, whose agrarian revolution from 1975 1979 killed an estimated 1.7 million people in Cambodia under the command of Pol Pot.

He declared Thursday a day of mourning.

ROWS OF DEAD

Emergency crews carried lifeless bodies and laid them out in rows for identification.

Many bodies were piled into ambulances and trucks and taken to city hospitals where paramedics searched for signs of life. Hospital wards and corridors were packed with injured.

Hun Sen urged the country to remain calm and ruled out terrorism as a cause for the catastrophe, which took place on the third and final day of the Bon Om Touk water festival.

The festival is the biggest carnival in a city that was for years starved of entertainment as it recovered from Khmer Rouge rule and years of war and isolation.

It marks the end of the life giving rains when the swollen Tonle Sap river changes course and begins flowing back out of Cambodias great lake into the Mekong river and down to the South China Sea in southern Vietnam.

An estimated 5 million of Cambodias 14 million people pour in to the city from the countryside and crowds throng riverbanks to watch traditional boat races, eat and drink.

Flashing coloured lights lined the small bridge at the heart of the disaster. Piles of shoes, clothes and possessions dropped in the crush littered the ground.

The bridge connects the capital to Koh Pich, or Diamond Island, a small stretch of land filled with new exhibition centres, restaurants and stalls. It is particularly popular with women shoppers during the festival, when traders offer discounts.

And the 6 foot 5 Atlanta native and former NFL MVP shoes were a clear tribute to where Newton had been before in his life: in Atlanta, playing football on fields around College Park, trying to make it out and trying to make it big.

The 28 year old Westlake High School graduate and three time pro bowler returned to his home city this week to unveil his new lifestyle shoe for Under Armour, C1Ns. These are shoes to be worn anytime and anywhere.

The C1Ns will be launched in seven colorways, and the first to make its debut is called It a bold red shoe littered with specs of a yellow gold. It a shoe that would match perfectly with a Dominique Wilkins Atlanta Hawks jersey from 1986.

The Hometown C1Ns will be available to the public on July 20 for $120 per pair, but Newton and several others were rocking them Thursday.

can thank Under Armour enough for this moment, because not a lot of NFL players have had the opportunity to create their own shoe, Newton said. Under Armour gave me free range to start from scratch with a white sheet of paper.

is now a culture, Newton said. most communities, that our out. That was my out. I didn have a plan B. If I didn make it in football, I was a failure and that the pressure I put on myself. There drugs in my community. There gangbanging in my community. For me to see and realize this is my passion and something I want to do, I have to make the most of each and every opportunity.

Adrienne Lofton, Under Armour Vice President of Global Brand Management, said it isn typical for the company athletes to be as involved in making a product as Newton was with the C1N, but the company made an exception for him.

day one, Lofton said. we were talking about how this story comes to life, (Newton) had a very distinctive point of view. In 1996, Under Armor CEO Kevin Plank, then a University of Maryland football player, had an idea that a tight shirt could be comfortable for athletes and increase their performance. Now it a brand worth billions.

Twenty one years after Plank had his idea,

Newton had one. He went to Under Armour and the company threw him the keys and creative license to make something special.

What was revealed in the process of making this shoe is that Newton is much more than a football player with a million dollar smile. He an entrepreneur, a creator and someone who cares deeply about his roots and where he came from.

is true and dear to my heart, Newton said. shoes) have a story and there no better person to tell the story than myself and (Under Armour) gave me the opportunity to do that.

has that ratchet side and turn up side, and the job interview, me act right side, Newton said. is when you can channel both.

He showed off the shoe versatility on its launch day. Newton wore them to the where he played games with kids from Atlanta at Skyline Park. He wore them to the press conference later that evening. He kept the C1Ns on while he ate at the after party. And he stomped around a stage in them as he rapped the song Road with fellow College Park native, 2Chainz.

shoe works, Lofton said. can train in it. You can bust your ass in this shoe, but when you done, you can live. The 442, Newton says, is where meets destiny. It black with specs of gold, a tribute to his love for muscle cars.

didn want colorways that didn mean nothing, Newton said.

When Newton was coming out of Auburn in 2011, having just won a National Championship and pegged to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, he was courted by several show companies.

But Under Armour, he says, stood out because it felt like a family. With any other brand, he isn sure this shoe would been made.

got presented by every brand and I just felt a connection with (Kevin Plank) and his team and felt I could grow. They cared about my personal brand as a whole, instead of just trying to sell things, Newton said. I don want to throw any other brands under the bus but, I couldn imagine not being with Under Armour.

As one of the biggest names in the fashion world, the Calvin Klein biography is the story of a boy who discovered his passion at an early age. Born on November 19, 1942, in the Bronx, New York, Klein was raised in a middle class family of Jewish Hungarian immigrants. While other kids were out playing sports in the streets, Klein was at home, practicing his sewing and sketching designs for hours on end. His parents didn know where he had gotten the talent or the interest neither of them were fashion fiends but it was one they were happy to watch grow.

From the High School of Industrial Art, Klein won a spot in the New York renowned Fashion Institute of Technology, where, at the age of 20 he was one of the youngest graduates in the school history. After graduating, he took an apprenticeship with a cloak and suit manufacturer, and spent another five years designing clothes for other New York shops.

As much as Klein was happy to have the paid work, he knew that he did not want to spend the rest of his life designing clothes under the names of others. And so, in 1968, with the financial backing of a childhood friend, Klein launched his own clothing company. Calvin Klein Ltd. was initially just a coat shop, based in New York City York Hotel. After a buyer from the exclusive department store Bonwit Teller got off on the wrong floor of the hotel and noticed Klein designs, he immediately placed a $50,000 order.

That order would forever change the course of the Calvin Klein biography. From there, the American designer expanded his line to include sportswear,

classic blazers and lingerie. With his designs in the minimalist tradition, Klein became the toast of New York. For three consecutive years, he was even the youngest designer in history to have ever won the prestigious Coty American Fashion Critics Award, which is similar to the Oscars of the fashion world.

By 1977, Calvin Klein Ltd. was earning more than $30 million in annual revenues. The company product lines had expanded even further to include scarves, shoes, belts, furs, sunglasses, and sheets. Just four years later, Fortune magazine listed Klein annual income at $8.5 million, and the impressive growth continued throughout the 1980s.

However, nothing is rarely as good as it seems. Financial problems, low sales, and strained relationships with licensees, pushed him to the brink of bankruptcy in 1992. Although the company managed to rebound, thanks in large part to the success of its underwear and fragrance lines, Klein announced in 1999 that the business was in fact up for sale. Three years later, the company was bought out by shirt maker Phillips Van Heusen for $400 million in cash, $30 million in stock and licensing rights over the next 15 years.

Today, the Calvin Klein biography stands out as a story of not only inspired talent and determined passion,

but as that of a young boy who could not help but to follow his dreams.

A friend of my wife has a cousin who is getting married and they can’t afford to hire a professional photographer. She has been to the house and saw all of my equipment and gave me a call tonight and asked if I would be willing to take pictures (in a few weeks) of the wedding and reception for a few hundred dollars. I agreed but with the stipulation that I would take the pictures and provide them the images and they could pay me for whatever they felt appropriate based on the outcome since I have never done such a thing before but have done family events (not that it’s the same). It’s not going to cost me anything but a few hours time and frankly puts a little less pressure on me to do a great job (I’m gonna try though!) and I get some good experience from it.

Anyway, anyone been in this situation before and how did it work out?

Right now, I have the Canon Rebel XTi but have been considering upgrading to the 50D. I’m just concerned that there won’t be enough room for you to back up with the 100mm F2.8 so you might want to think about getting the 50mm F1.4 still.

OK where to start,

I have a issue with a company who isn’t paying their bill, I have supported them for a few months which is one of the reasons that I haven’t been around as much as I used to be.

I need to prove a point and require a sensible and honest replies to this posting. You need to have some networking background or server installs, or knowledge of server and their definitions. There is two sets of questions to answer and only about 6.

Thanks in advance.

(EDIT) I have moved the question to a post about 3 down, if you dont want to read you should be able to answer a few questions. (/EDIT)

Back ground: Company had had a IT guy for a few years, the desktops are the low end Dell systems and the server specs were:

2 Gig PC133

P4 1.7Ghz

3 x 40 Gig HDDWindows 2000 Small business Server.

256Mb DDR

2.4 Ghz Intel’s

40 Gig HDD’s

XP Pro

The workstations were not up to date, didn’t even have SP1 on them and they also had a lot of other software from the Dell factory and office install this was odd as they all had a mix of office 2000 and office 2003.

When I was called in the server was not running correctly as in RFC compliant so it was a spam re layer and had a st load of spam coming in (around 140 per day for one user!)

After being there for some time I could see that the server was not correctly configured or set up, I had advised on the security issues. shortly after someone was fired for a security breach.

Not long after this The server was becoming critical, I had advised the clients on this. The server was so badly configured it would have been impossible to come up with a solution other than a format and complete reinstall. As the server was old and didn’t offer some server nor had the space for services, A new server was offered.

I see GQ magazine has ranked Toronto as Canada’s best dressed city. This, apparently, is of much concern to Montreal, which thinks of itself as this country’s big thing in fashion. The same survey, done in partnership with MSN Travel magazine, put Ottawa among the 10 worst dressed cities in the world. Too many boring navy suits and too much “matchy matchy.” Poor Ottawa was lower than Pittsburg, but higher than Vancouver, which, according to GQ/MSN, has way too many yoga pants. (“Really, what gives with the whole wearing of bum hugging workout gear to every other place except the gym?”) To my knowledge, Kamloops wasn’t included in the survey, but it would have been instructional to hear what the judges had to say about us. Rather than matchy matchy, we are mishy mashy. The only things we try to match, in my opinion, are all those beige buildings decreed by City Hall. Take our politicians, for example. With the possible exception of MP Cathy McLeod, their fashion sense is, well, a work in progress. I once wrote that Chief Shane Gottfriedson shows up to every public event looking like he just came in from doing chores. However,
timberland shops Call the fashion police
I ran into him on Victoria Street yesterday and he looked uncharacteristically spiffy with a bright red shirt. Mayor Peter Milobar once took to the podium for the official opening of a hotel wearing baggy blue jeans and a rumply shirt. Maybe he’d just gotten back in town from taking his kids to a swim tournament. Terry Lake has improved, but still favours sports jackets and sensible shoes, while Kevin Krueger makes a statement I’m just not sure what it is. City councillors? Don’t get me started. The one group that seems to have it together most of the time is our lawyers. Every lawyer needs a nice suit to go with his Audi. I’m told one local barrister bought five pairs of identical $450 wingtips so he could rotate through a different pair each day of the week. There was a brief setback when he discovered they all squeaked. There’s nothing worse than walking into a courtroom with squeaky shoes, but the story goes he got them fixed and it’s all good. For the average Joe or Josephine, however, everyday wear begins with a comfortable pair of sneakers, unless you’re a cowboy, in which case you opt for well worn Ropers, Wranglers with plenty of stack, and a plaid shirt as you hop into your 4X4 pickup. Fundraising gala nights are a study in diversity. Women go for everything from long gowns with sparkles and low backs to show off the tattoos, to short skirts and cleavage, while the guys range from tuxedos to shirt sleeves, all at the same event. Prize for the worst dressers in town, though, goes to the folks in the media. Raffelina Sirianni at TV7 has a pair of plastic shoes she’s especially fond of for summer, while NL’s Angelo Iacobucci is fond of Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses, even on the most overcast day. His idea of dressing up is to put on a ballcap. We at The Daily News, of course, are impeccable dressers. Kamloops might never make the GQ list, but whatever style we do have is all ours.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said the activists were detained and investigated on suspicion of interfering with a company’s “normal operation and production activities”, and the illegal use of “professional surveillance equipment”.

The case was being handled in accordance with the law and no country had the right to interfere in the judicial process, she told a daily news briefing in the Chinese capital.

“We urge China to release them immediately and otherwise afford them the judicial and fair trial protections to which they are entitled,” said the spokeswoman, Alicia Edwards. companies understand conditions in their China supply chains, “which can be essential in fulfilling their own responsibilities and holding Chinese manufacturers accountable under Chinese labour laws,” she added.

China Labor Watch said Hua Haifeng was arrested in southeastern Jiangxi province on suspicion of illegally using eavesdropping equipment.

He and Li Zhao had worked covertly at a shoe factory owned by the Huajian Group in the city of Dongguan, in southern Guangdong province. The third investigator, Su Heng, had worked at a related factory in the Jiangxi city of Ganzhou,

but had been incommunicado after May 27.

Both factories produced Ivanka Trump branded shoes, China Labor Watch said. The investigators had discovered evidence that workers’ rights had been violated, it said.

The Ivanka Trump brand, the White House and Ivanka Trump’s lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, have not responded to requests for comment on the case.

The case comes at a time of sustained pressure on labour activists in China amid a crackdown on civil society under President Xi Jinping.

In recent years, many labour rights activists have reported being intimidated and harassed, temporarily detained, or having had their movements restricted.

Rights group Amnesty International has called for the release of the three if they were held only for investigating possible labour abuses at the factories. (Reporting by Philip Wen; Additional reporting by David Brunnstrom in WASHINGTON;

This tiny opossum’s mom was found by the side of the road. She had been dead for at least a day, so WildCare staff was surprised to find two little babies alive in the mom’s pouch.

“The force of the collision probably killed the mother opossum instantly, and the other siblings in the pouch were also killed by the impact,” Alison Hermance, director of communications at WildCare, said. “These two babies must have been deeply ensconced in the pouch, and only the protective shield of their mother’s body kept them alive.”

“The other inmates are trying to get the cop that did that to be held accountable for what he did. There were inmates who seen him do it. I was told by other inmates. I didn’t see it myself, but I did see the poor kitty afterwards.”

Prison spokesman Michael Tuntakit told the Bee that the animal abuse claim is under investigation, and that “if it was a staff member, we’ll hold that staff member accountable.”

The prison had a “feral cat colony” for three decades. According to the Bee, 15 years ago the prison briefly created “a population control program” that involved “trapping, neutering and releasing” the cats. The program has since ended.

Unlike mere trendy mopers, genuinely depressive musicians are often reluctant to fuck with their darkest feelings, and the exceptions often have death certificates that prove the rule. scenester Bob Forrest has never stopped confessing how stupidly he wallows in the self pity he has never stopped trying to escape. His band, Thelonious Monster, started out as a typical (if terrific) gaggle of late ’80s indie rock wise asses, but by the time of their 1992 swan song, Beautiful Mess, the fun was draining from Forrest’s sprees, as the increasing ache in his whine attested. He poked his head from the mire in 1999 with a new band,
timberland liverpool California Clam Chowder
the Bicycle Thief, to record a desperate album length attempt at reassurance. On that album’s closing track, a breakfasting addict bemoans his dishwashing job while each spoonful of cereal shatters another drug weakened tooth.

His life and his band both provisionally back together, Forrest names each of his 15 new songs for the artist who supposedly inspired it (musically, lyrically, maybe just spiritually). The conceit allows him to vent the accumulated bitterness of a veteran hanger on “The Joy Division Song” condemns poseurs with such quaint righteousness, you’ll be super pissed at Haircut 100 all over again while aiding his elbow deep plunge into a sentimentality he has never exactly shied away from. Maybe “The Beck Song” (“You’re just a haircut and some tennis shoes”) is a cheap shot (not necessarily at B. Hanson), but “The Oasis Song” (“If you agree that things are not/the way they could be or the way they should be or the way you want them to be/Let’s get together and change the world”) captures its subject’s ham fisted uplift with a wink that’s never snidely parodic as the heroine’s suicide on “The Big Star Song” makes clear, there’s too much at stake.

And so Forrest puts his all into “The Bob Dylan Song,

” a loser’s anthem for the kids (clichd harmonica and butterfly metaphor included) that nearly echoes Jonathan Richman’s promise that even the most depressed teen can someday grow “Dignified and Old.” Except that Forrest can only provide the latter half of that guarantee.

scored on a 21 yard run with 1:33 left in overtime to secure the Buffalo Bills’ 13 7 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in a wintry, white out setting best suited for snow shoes and sled dogs.

He finished with 156 yards rushing, a career best in his two plus seasons in Buffalo. And it came nearly four years to the day the former Philadelphia running back set the Eagles franchise record with 217 yards rushing, also in a snowstorm.

“Is that right?” McCoy said when reminded of his feat.

“This is probably the best snow game I have ever played in,” he said. “Now, I’m no expert at it. I just run how I feel. And that’s what I did today.”

McCoy’s touchdown led to the Bills’ sideline erupting in celebration. Some players ran on the field to make snow angels . Others playfully engaged in snowball fights.

And then there was McCoy, who was mobbed by numerous teammates in the corner of the stands, where fans tossed up handfuls of snow as if it was confetti.

McCoy’s touchdown capped Buffalo’s second possession of overtime, and after receiver reached to his right to make a 35 yard catch while being interfered with by Kenny Moore.

Three plays later, facing third and 2, McCoy burst through the middle, made a cut to his left and ran untouched into the end zone.

“Buffalo weather, right?” Bills coach Sean McDermott said. “I’ve been part of some wind and some rain games. I think we had all but sun today.”

There was even a dose of “thunder snow,” a meteorological event that occasionally accompanies lake effect enhanced snowstorm. Thunder rumbled and lightning flashed early in the third quarter, but the game was not stopped.

As much as two feet of snow was in the forecast when the storm hit about 90 minutes before kickoff. Within an hour, the flakes fell so fast that fans sitting in New Era Field’s east end stands were unable to make out the large video scoreboard directly across from them.

Punted balls stuck in the snow. Colts receiver disappeared into a snowbank in the end zone after being unable to stop on a deep pass from . Rogers made the catch, but couldn’t keep both feet inbounds.

A parade of stadium workers regularly made their way on the field with snow blowers on their backs to uncover the yard lines.

So much snow accumulated on the roof of the first level suites that fans began building snowmen.

Mother Nature played havoc with any semblance of a game plan, leaving both teams to lean heavily on their running attacks.

McCoy upped his season total to 1,007 in reaching the 1,000 yard mark for the sixth time of his 13 year career.

The Colts were led by , who finished with 130 yards rushing on a career high 36 carries.

Buffalo (7 6) stayed alive in the AFC playoff picture, while the Colts (3 10) were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

“Tough one to say the least. I’m so disappointed and sick for these guys,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said.

After squandering double digit leads in the second half four times already this season, the Colts found a different way to blow an outcome.

First, there was an offensive pass interference penalty against Colts receiver to negate what would’ve been a two point conversion with 1:16 left. It happened after Brissett capped a 19 play, 77 yard march with a 3 yard touchdown to .

That led to the Colts scrambling to settle for a 43 yard extra point into the wind. Indianapolis used its final timeout for players to clear a spot for .

The NFL’s oldest player hit a 43 yard wobbler that hooked in from the right and just sneaked over the crossbar.

Vinatieri, however, missed a field goal wide left from the exact same spot with 1 second remaining after the Colts regained possession when intercepted Webb’s pass over the middle with 52 seconds left.

Pagano blamed himself for the missed field goal.

“End of the game, that’s on me. We should’ve won that thing,” Pagano said. “They deserve better.”

Colts: Brissett went 11 of 22 for 69 yards and had three carries for 10 yards.

Bills: Rookie went 5 of 10 for 57 yards before being sidelined by a head injury late in the third quarter. Peterman started in place of , who was sidelined by a bruised left knee in a 23 3 loss to New England last weekend. Webb finished 2 of 6 for 35 yards and an interception.

CALGARY Calgary mayor says plunging oil prices haven had as dire an effect on the city as most had expected, but many in the industry are still waiting for the shoe to drop. Nenshi says despite headlines about job losses in the energy sector, Calgary actually gained more jobs than it lost in the first half of 2015. Nenshi told reporters Friday.

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers has estimated 36,000 jobs in the oil and gas sectors have been shed so far this year.

There are also signs the Calgary economy is being battered.

Both housing prices and new home starts are down and many downtown office buildings remain half empty with Colliers International saying downtown vacancy rates jumped to 13 per cent in the second quarter of the year.

The Conference Board of Canada projects Calgary will go from having one of the country’s top performing economies in 2014 to among the worst this year second only to Edmonton.

Nenshi said the provincial and federal governments need to capitalize on low interest rates and declining construction costs by building more.

we need to do is ride the cycle, take advantage of the few good things that happen at the bottom of the cycle, in short invest in infrastructure while construction is cheap and interest rates are low, put people back to work as best we can and reap the benefits of the bad part, Nenshi said.

Nenshi said when it comes to bolstering the energy sector Albertans are going to have to put their faith in Alberta NDP Premier Rachel Notley and newly elected Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

very clear that the arguments that we been using for the last 10, 12 or 15 years haven been that effective. We really haven got a single kilometre of tidewater pipeline built so I willing to give the new prime minister and the premier the benefit of the doubt on this,

picks up again from 1424 to peak at 50 documents in 1432, before falling away again until 1439 when it suddenly surges to again some 50 documents in the year, with this level of business being maintained to the end of the register. Many of the

documents in this last sequence have year dates omitted, but the chronological sequence is then fairly consistent and year dates can be assigned with some confidence from their place in the sequence. Although there appears to be a new beginning with

Prior Wessington in 1416, with a suitable heading on f.20r, the register appears to have continued to be little used in the early years of his priorate. From 1439, the high level of usage reflects another new beginning with seemingly Wessington

handing over responsibility for the register to his chaplain, Richard Parke, (cf. f.104r). This was perhaps part of Wessington’s reaction to the bursarial crisis at Durham of 1438,

The contents of the register comprise copies of mainly documents issued by the prior, along with some issued by other members of the priory, and some received by the priory. Only a few are recorded as sealed. Letters of the prior feature, alongordinances, commissions, licences, letters of attorney, monitions, letters of excommunication, occasional inspeximi and leases, grants of corrodies and especially places in Le Maison Dieu. Two decades have passed since a warm May night when Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student Kristin Denise Smart vanished after an off campus party.

Her disappearance sparked a massive manhunt, with searchers using helicopters, horses and an army of volunteers, and even ground penetrating radar. She was never found and was presumed dead.

The cold case took a new twist Tuesday when the FBI and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department announced they were excavating at three sites on a hillside near the dormitories. The search is centered on the giant “P” in a hillside sign that stands for Cal Poly. Officials said they picked the locations based on the activities of human decomposition dogs.

RELATED: Inside the cold case mystery: What happened to Kristin Smart?

“The campus was the last place Kristin was seen,” Sheriff Ian Parkinson said near the dig. “Due to its high visibility, we really decided it was best to go ahead and disclose why we are here. We will not give up to find Kristin.”

Sheriff’s investigators along with a specialized FBI team will spend four days digging up three sites. Parkinson said it was one of several locations to be examined but declined to discuss other places at this time.

Smart’s disappearance captivated San Luis Obispo.

Officials were vague about what new information they might now have. Tony Cipolla, a sheriff’s spokesman, said only that a tip led them to the area.

Smart’s family released a statement Wednesday saying they are cautiously optimistic about the developments.

“We are encouraged and hopeful for the new developments in Kristin’s case. We have been hoping, praying and waiting for the last twenty years for the return of our daughter. And while the road has been difficult beyond words; our hopes were rekindled when Sheriff Parkinson took office,” the statement said.

Investigators will dig about 3 feet down in the locations. The team consists of 25 FBI agents, 15 sheriff’s detectives and California Department of Fish Wildlife agents.

The sheriff said investigators have not talked to Paul Flores, the man last seen with Smart. But Parkinson on Tuesday said he remains a person of interest in Smart’s disappearance.

Smart’s family has sued Flores in civil court, but he was not charged criminally in relation to the case. In response to the Smart family’s suit, Flores denied “both generally and specifically each and every allegation” raised against him.

Smart was officially declared dead in 2002.

Parkinson said that he understands the community needs answers but emphasized that expectations need to be managed in solving Smart’s disappearance. It’s a case with no body and no crime scene.

Smart’s face still appears on a billboard in nearby Arroyo Grande, and her family has explored thousands of leads over the years in their search for the lean, 6 foot 1, high cheekboned student. On May 25, 1996,

the day she vanished, she wore a short cropped T shirt, running shorts and red athletic shoes. on May 24, Smart left a message on her mother’s telephone, reporting, happily, that she would be allowed to make up a biology test that somehow had been lost earlier in the year.

One warm Friday night in late spring 10 years ago, Kristin Denise Smart and three other young women started walking from their dorms at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. They were headed for the neighborhoods of apartment complexes and overpopulated “Animal House” like bungalows that border the campus.

None of the women had been drinking. when he spotted the tall girl later identified as Smart sprawled on a lawn next door, apparently passed out. He roused her. She was in no condition to walk home alone.

Davis and Cheryl Anderson were going to walk her home when Flores, a 19 year old from the nearby town of Arroyo Grande, volunteered to help.

Detectives have long called Flores a suspect but said they lacked the evidence to charge him. At one point early in the investigation, San Luis Obispo County district attorney’s officials interviewed Flores. As the investigators pressed him, he pulled his arms into his T shirt, scrunched over at the waist in his chair and lifted his feet off the floor, as if moving toward a fetal position, records show.

“If you are so smart,” he demanded, “then tell me where the body is.”

See the most read stories this hour Flores invoked his 5th Amendment right against self incrimination before a grand jury and during a civil deposition. Flores could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Officials said a $65,

An Unforgettable Wedding Gift Cake Towel

One of the most remarkable and beautiful wedding gifts I have ever seen was created by one of my sisters for another sister’s wedding. She built a pristine “wedding cake” from white towels and decorated it with ribbons, held in place with pearl pins, and hid a cd in one of the layers, not that anything additional was needed. The “cake” was such a work of art it stole the show from the real cake! Everyone wanted to know who had made it, how long it took, etc, and no one with a camera passed up a chance for a snapshot of it.

Creating a towel cake can be as simple or as complicated as you need it to be. It is easy to make it unique with your own special touches and add personal touches that will make it an unforgettable part of any wedding or shower.

This is easy to make and the bride to be will love the personalized touch! The colors can be coordinated to go with the wedding theme and colors.

I used large wide rubber bands to hold each individual layer together for ease of handling. To decorate choose ribbon in colors that coordinate with the towels or wedding colors. My niece had requested purple towels so I selected a wide white ribbon adorned with pearls. Cut the ribbon into 60″, 40″ and 30″ lengths. Tie the large piece around the bath towels layer and repeat for the other two cake layers. When complete, stack the cake layers starting with the largest layer at the bottom. I used small pins to hold the layers in place. If you do use pins try to place them through the tags on the towels not the towels themselves.

This is the fun part! Use your imagination and decorate with silk flowers, fall leaves or wedding bells. I placed the cake on a footed cake plate for presentation.

These tasteful cakes look so delicious. But please do not eat. It is the soft cotton washing clothes artfully hand wrapped to resemble a tasteful cake. This delicious looking designed favor will make your mouth water, but it is calorie free. They are great for wedding favors, bay showers, gift baskets, Christmas stocking items and all other occasions

Different Towel Cakes for Different Occasions

A towel cake is a unique and creative way to give a Gift for a wedding shower or a housewarming gift. I use matching bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths for the Towel cake. There will be 2 30 X 54″ bath towels, 4 16 X 26″ hand towels and 3 12 X 12 wash cloths. For a romantic theme, I use bath products such as lotions, bubble bath, incense, bath beads and other items. For a bath/kitchen theme, I use wooden spoons, wire wisks, spatulas and other cooking utensils. The color schemes vary and can be specified by the customer. The ribbons used can be specified to be a wedding theme, otherwise the ribbons will be color coordinated to the color of the towels used. The towel cake pictured is a chocolate cake theme. The bottle in the top of the cake is a champaign shaped bottle of scented bubble bath. Additional picture will be posted in the future.

Wedding Towel Cakes are Full of Charming Surprises!

The first thing to consider when makeing wedding towel cakes is what kind of towels to use. The usual “recipe” calls for two bath towels,
stussy timberland Cake Towel As Your Wedding Gift
two hand towels, and two washcloths, all white. But you can adjust towel cakes to include any type or number of towels you want. If you know what color towels the couple would prefer, choose accordingly. Don’t skimp on quality. You’ll only save a few dollars, and the appearance of your towel wedding cakes will suffer.

Decorations for your wedding towel cakes are limited only by your imagination. The tiers of wedding towel cakes would look elegant “belted” with wide ribbon. Or tie smaller bows and pin them here and there. Faux flowers are another possibility. Pearl topped straight pins inserted around the edges give a finished look, help hold the cake together, and are a gift in themselves. Make sure, though, to warn the recipient of the hazard.

Your finished towel wedding cakes will have to sit on something, and a pretty bath tray would be perfect. You might want to buy the tray before putting the towel cakes together to make sure of a good fit. You could also set the cake on a matching round bath mat or rug. Surround the cake with scented flower shaped soaps. Tie a bow around the handle of a fancy pumice scrubber and lay it beside the towel cake as a “server.”

Cake Towel Gain More Popularity

Cake towel is practical and yet full of personality; so despite of the price which is a bit higher than traditional wedding gifts, people still prefer it as cute and romantic Wedding Gifts for the once a lifetime occasion.

Currently, towels sold as, for instance, a gift are folded in various manner and arranged in a storage box, and the top side of the storage box is covered with a transparent film, so that the customers can see the arranged towel(s) inside the box through the film, thus drawing the attention of the customers and increase the customer’s desire to purchase. Among these, with the focus on characteristics such as the towel’s texture, thickness, and flexibility, some towels are formed into animals and dolls by way of attaching the towel cloth by sewing or fastening with a pin or the like, thus being offered exclusively as decorations.

In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for cake shaped decorative accessories using a towel cloth as a gift or present, and there has been a demand for other types of decorative accessories that have a cake shape.

Traditional wedding gifts such as chocolate gifts are so common that people want to add some personality and uniqueness to their wedding gift; cake towel seems to be a perfect choice.

(This story is part of a series, “The Body Trade,” about America’s unregulated commerce in donated human bodies.)

By Elizabeth Culliford

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida, Dec 15 (Reuters) LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida Just outside the operating theater, the organizers of a medical conference wore Minnie Mouse ears.

Inside, as doctors practiced on three cadavers, blood from one of the human specimens seeped through a layer of wrapping.

They leak, a lab technician said of the bodies.

The sessions, held last month and attended by a Reuters reporter, werent at a hospital or medical school. They were part of a so called cadaver lab and the setting was a Florida resort. It was one of scores of such events over the past six years that have been held at a hotel or its convention center.

In this case, doctors practiced nerve root blocks and other procedures on cadavers in one of the Grand Harbor ballrooms salons at Disneys Yacht Beach Club Resorts convention center. Online, Disney refers to its ballrooms as regal and resplendent. Theyre often used for wedding receptions.

Disney did not respond to requests for comment for this article.

Medical training in the United States is usually done in secure lab facilities equipped specifically for such seminars. But not always. Reuters identified at least 90 cadaver labs that have taken place since 2012 at hotels or their convention centers in dozens of cities, from New York to San Diego. Some of the biggest names in the industry, from Hilton and Hyatt to Sheraton and Radisson, have hosted the events.

The cadavers used in these seminars are often procured through body brokers, organizations that acquire bodies donated to science and then sell or rent the parts for use in medical research and training.

Body brokers generally refer to themselves as non transplant tissue banks. government closely regulates. No federal law covers the sale or lease of cadavers or body parts used in research or education, such as those operated on at the Disney center. That industry is virtually unregulated.

Similarly, there is little, if any, regulation governing where seminars featuring cadavers and body parts can be held, although the federal government does have rules on how labs handle medical waste and bloodborne pathogens.

The World Health Organization says that, in general, dead bodies pose no greater risk of infection than the person did while they were alive.

I will be the first to acknowledge there have been no big outbreaks or situations that have occurred yet from a dead body, Osterholm said. But I am absolutely convinced its just a matter of time.

There has been at least one instance of a body broker who allegedly failed to report positive results for hepatitis B in a cadaver sent to a medical conference. Although no one who attended the conference reported getting sick, Rathburn faces trial in January on charges of defrauding health care workers and lying to federal agents. He has pleaded not guilty.

The Hyatt chain has hosted at least 10 seminars that included cadavers since the 2011 incident, Reuters determined.

After Reuters asked about the cadaver labs, Hyatt spokeswoman Stephanie Lerdall said the hotel chain is now reviewing the guidance it provides hotels around medical trainings of this kind. Or they are hosted by medical device companies who want doctors to try new products. The seminars are usually staffed by companies that run mobile labs. These companies often provide the donated bodies or body parts used by the doctors such as torsos, hands, and legs either from the companys own donor program or from other non transplant tissue banks.

Surgeons say no manikin or computer simulation can replicate the experience of practicing on a human specimen. And mobile lab providers say seminars at hotels and convention centers fill a gap. They allow many more practitioners access to training than could be accommodated at permanent lab facilities such as hospitals.

But regulations are few. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has no guidelines for seminars involving human body parts, a spokesman said. The Occupational Safety and Health Agency didnt respond to questions about whether or how OSHA regulates such seminars.

The New York State Health Department said it does not issue permits for hotel cadaver labs. Its rules require rooms where cadavers and body parts are used for education or research to have biosafety features, such as a working sink. Even so, the department has never inspected any hotels that have held cadaver labs, spokesman Ben Rosen said.

That means safety precautions are largely up to hotels and lab providers.

The Hilton hotel chain has held at least 11 cadaver labs since 2012 in cities including New York, Chicago and San Diego. A Hilton policy posted online requires a seminar organizer to show it has the approval of OSHA and the local health department before holding an event involving cadavers. These requirements are uniquely tailored to the location and type of event, the spokesman said, and wherever possible, we specify required documentation. Reuters surveyed six states where cadaver seminars have been regularly held. New York was the only one in which a state or local health department said it had any regulations covering such labs. Some were oblivious to the seminars.
